Op de prestigieuze World Cup of Pool heeft Team NL, bestaande uit Niels Feijen en Marc Bijsterbosch, voor een enorme stunt gezorgd. Na in de openingsronde van dit met 32 deelnemende teams duidelijk te hebben gewonnen van Marokko (7-1), werd algemeen aangenomen dat de laatste 16 wel eens het eindstation zou kunnen zijn. Immers, daar wachtte het duo Filler/Hohmann van regerend World Cup of Pool kampioen Duitsland.
Maar onze mannen lieten ze zich van hun beste kant zien! Ondanks een achterstand in het begin wisten Bijsterbosch en Feijen het heel knap om te draaien – en met een prachtige 7-4 overwinning zit Nederland plotseling bij de laatste acht!
Niels was na afloop extatisch: “Great win over Germany 7-4 in the last 16 of the Matchroom Pool World Cup of Pool. We showed a lot of grit in that match, down 1-3. Turned it around to go 5-3 up when Hohmann jumped in a great 1 ball after a nice safety battle. 4-5. Missed 8ball by Hohmann put us on the hill and a nice kick safe on the 1 set up the opening for the winning run out in the last game.”

The World Cup of Pool has been an established major event in 9-ball since 2006 and adopts a straight-knockout format. Matches are race to 7 in the first two rounds, race to 9 in the quarter-finals and semi-finals, and race to 11 in the final.
Germany are defending champions having won the trophy for a second time in the country’s history in 2021. Previous winners of the World Cup of Pool include Philippines, China, Austria, and the USA.
