Wat is het een week in het Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino! Bekend van zijn grote conferenties, maar ook grote sportevenementen: zo wordt hier ieder jaar de World Series of Poker gehouden.
Maar deze week is het anders! Momenteel is nog de de Alfa Las Vegas Open bezig, met namens Nederland Niels Feijen, Marco Teutscher, Yannick Pongers, Jan van Lierop, Tim De Ruyter en Marc Bijsterbosch in actie. (Laatstgenoemde zit bij de laatste 16, Jan en Niels sneuvelden op plek 17.)
En daarna volgt er heel wat absoluut topbiljart! Wat betreft pool het Predator WK 10-ball en het Alfa Las Vegas Women’s Open. En wat betreft driebanden: de World Cup Las Vegas.
Nederlanders kijken hun ogen uit! Wat te denken van deze mooie foto van Yannick Pongers voor de fonteinen van de Bellagio, de plek waar Ocean’s Eleven hun nabespreking hielden van de meest-spectaculaire-casinokraak-ooit.
Of de foto van driebander Barry van Beers die zeer onder de indruk was van de schijnbaar oneindige hoeveelheid pooltafels: “Er is ook een ‘klein’ pooltoernooi, 5000 spelers op 300 tafels in 3 zalen, pooltafels zover als je kunt zien.” Of, zoals Rinske van Beers-Snellen het verwoordde: “We zijn hier voor de wereldbeker driebanden: 150 deelnemers, 9 tafels 1 zaal. Er is ook een toernooitje pool aan de gang. 5000 deelnemers, 3 zalen, 300 tafels. Och verschil moet er zijn.”
Het is niet alleen een indicatie van de grootsheid van Vegas – het is ook een indicatie hoe groot poolen mondiaal eigenlijk is.

The Alfa Las Vegas Open, third 2022 stop of the Predator US Pro Billiard Series, is live from Wednesday March 23 through Saturday March 26, with five matches streamed daily.
The 2022 Predator Cues World 10-Ball Championship will be held March 28 through April 1. The field is set at 128 players and the event has a $226,000 prize fund.
The Alfa Las Vegas Women’s Open begins March 30 and the final will take place on April 2. The event has a $54,400 prize fund and is an official Women's Professional Billiard Association (WPBA) event.
All three events are part of the CueSports International - CSI Expo, staged at Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas with thousands of BCA Pool League & USA Pool League members in attendance.
The Predator US Pro Billiard Series is a series of open pro events held in the United States to provide more opportunity for professional and aspiring pool players to compete in high-quality events, and earn their way into the $250,000 2023 Predator World 10-Ball Championship held in Las Vegas, part of the CueSports International Expo.

This year’s field for the Alfa Las Vegas Open has been increased to 192 players and has a prize fund of $125,000. Each of this year’s Pro Billiard Series events will have more than $52,000 added which will upgrade these tournaments all to WPA Category 3 sanctioned events, securing the exclusive dates on the WPA calendar and allowing players to earn more WPA ranking points from each event.
The winner of each 2022 US Pro Billiard Series event will receive a guaranteed spot in the 2023 Predator Cues World 10-Ball Championship, which will be held February 27 through March 3 in Las Vegas. Additionally, a minimum of the top 12 players in the Predator US Pro Billiard Series rankings who are not otherwise invited by the WPA, a WPA continental federation or a promoter wild card, will also earn spots in the 2023 Predator World 10-Ball Championship.
